A Gantt chart is a type of bar chart used to visualize a project schedule, including task duration, deadlines, and dependencies. It is useful for planning tasks that need to be completed in a specific order but do not have fixed deadlines.
How to use the Gantt chart
Go to the Tasks and Projects section and open the Gantt view.
The chart lets you visually edit the task schedule using task bars. Each task includes the following dates:
-
Start date: represented by the left edge of the task bar.
-
End date: represented by the right edge of the task bar.
-
Deadline: displayed as a vertical red line.
Drag either side of the blue task bar to change the Start date or End date. To move the entire task schedule, drag the whole task bar across the chart.
You can also set the Start date and End date in the task form under the Time planning section.
If you do not specify an End date, the task bar appears as a pentagon.
Task bars can also display additional details:
-
Overdue tasks are partially highlighted in red.
-
The vertical red line shows the task deadline.
-
A thin dark line inside the task bar shows the period when work was performed on the task.
Hover over a task bar to view task details.
To edit a task, right-click the task bar and choose an action from the menu. You can also double-click the task bar to open the full task form.
To zoom in or out on the chart, use the + and - icons on the left.
How to create task dependencies in the Gantt chart
Task dependencies define the order in which tasks must be completed. They help show which tasks are primary and which depend on others.
To create a dependency, drag a connection line between two tasks. For example, you can create a Finish-to-Start dependency. In this case, when you move the End date of the main task, the Start date of the dependent task changes automatically.
