FAQ: AI Projects

We combined groups, collabs, and projects into one format: AI Projects. Your workflows stay the same. You can collaborate with your team, communicate in one place, and give access to external participants in a single workspace.

Chat is now at the center of every project. The main chat is the shared space for team coordination. Group chats inside a project help teams discuss specific topics.

Where can we find groups and collabs

We combined groups, collabs, and projects into one format: AI Projects.

Before, when you created a workspace, you had to choose between a workgroup, a collab, or a project. Now all of these use cases are available in one format with the same core features. You can manage tasks, communicate with your team, and invite guests.

All data and tools from your groups, collabs, and older projects are still available.

You can find projects in these places:

  • Left menu > Projects — shows all projects available to you
  • Tasks > Projects — shows projects you participate in by default
  • Messenger > Projects.

Why the Tasks and Projects section was renamed to Tasks

We simplified navigation so key sections are easier to reach.

The Tasks section now shows all tasks from projects, flows, and Scrums. Projects moved to a separate tab so work levels are easier to understand.

Why some tools are missing in new projects

Some tools are no longer available when you create a new project: photo gallery, wiki, knowledge base, lists. New projects include only the main tools teams use most — Tasks, Files, Calendar, Feed, Flows, and apps.

If you used the removed tools in older projects, they are still there. Open the project and click Three dots (...). You can't create new items in these tools, but you can still view, edit, and delete existing ones.

Publishing to Bitrix24 Sites in new projects

The Publish to Bitrix24 Sites option is no longer available in new projects.

Why a project opens in chat

Chat is now the starting point for every project:

  • Main chat for team coordination and status updates
  • Group chats for focused discussions with selected members
  • CoPilot in chat for quick status checks, risk review, and task search.

This keeps communication, tasks, meetings, and files in one place.

If your team prefers to start with the Feed or tasks, you can change the default starting tool.

This setting is available only in Bitrix24 accounts created before June 30, 2026.

1. Open the sidebar in the project's main chat.
2. Click Three dots (...) > Set default tool.
3. Select the option.

Why not all project chats appear in Messenger

Messenger shows only the main project chat.

This chat is the main entry point to the project and the place for team-wide communication. Other chats — such as task chats, meeting chats, and topic-based chats — stay inside the project. This helps preserve context and keeps your main chat list from getting crowded.

How to check for new messages in project chats

In Messenger, new project messages are marked with a red counter that shows the total number of unread messages.

Each project in the chat list can also show color counters:

  • If there are new messages only in the main project chat — the counter is blue
  • If there are new messages only in group chats, task chats, or meeting chats — the counter is green
  • If there are messages in both — the counter is double: blue and green.

How to set up notifications for system messages in a project

You can choose which events send messages to the main project chat.

1. Open the sidebar in the project's main chat and click Three dots (...) > Edit.
2. Find the Project notifications section and toggle the events you want.
3. Click Save.

How to open a project in full-page view

By default, a project opens over the general chat list. This lets you monitor updates in other chats and quickly switch between the project and your conversations.

To open the project in a separate full-size tab, click the button in the project header.

How to create multiple CoPilot chats in one project

Yes, you can create multiple CoPilot chats in one project. Click Plus (+) above the project's chat list, next to the search bar, and select CoPilot chat.

What access users get when you add them to a project chat

If any of the people you add to a project's group chat are not yet project members, Bitrix24 will warn you that after confirming, they will get access to the entire project.

If you add someone only to a task chat within the project, they will get access to that task only, not to the entire project.

How to invite a new member to a project

You can add a member when creating a project or later in an existing one.

When creating a project.

1. Go to the Projects section and click Create.
2. In the creation form, find the Project members section and click Add. Select the users, department, or workgroup you want.

In an existing project.

1. Go to the project and open the main chat.
2. Click the button in the upper right corner, click on the Employees tab, select your colleagues.
3. Click Add.

How to add an existing group chat to a project

Only an employee who meets both conditions can add an existing chat to a project:

  • Project owner or employee with permission to invite members
  • Owner of the chat.

There are two ways to add a chat:

In the project. Go to the project and click Plus (+) > Move chat to project. Select the chat you want to add.

From the group chat. Open the chat, go to the sidebar, and click Three dots (...) > Add chat to project. Select the project you want to add the chat to.

Share a link to a project

Open the project's main chat and open the sidebar. Click Three dots (...) and select Copy link.

What happens next depends on the project type:

  • Public project: users can open the project and join it on their own
  • Private project: users will not see the project until you add them manually.

Return to old workgroups and collabs

You cannot switch back to workgroups and collabs. This format is no longer supported.

Your data and tools from workgroups, collabs, and legacy projects are still preserved and available.
