In Google Looker Studio, you can create reports for clients and control how they access the data.
How permissions work
Google Looker Studio offers three sharing options:
- Anyone with the link can edit
- Anyone with the link can view
- Off - only specific people can access
Anyone with the link can edit
Open the Share menu and select Manage access. Then enable Anyone with the link can edit.
Copy the report link and save the settings.
When a client opens the link, they get full editing access. They can:
- Edit the report
- Share access with other users
- Update the data
Clients can also access your data source. To view it, open Resource > Added Data Sources.
To use the report with their own data, clients need to create a copy of the report:
- Open the File menu.
- Select Make a copy.
- Choose a data source.
- Click Copy Report.
After that, the client can work with the report using their own data.
Anyone with the link can view
If you only want to share the report without editing access, enable the View option.
Copy the report link and save the settings.
When a client opens the link, they can view the report but cannot edit it.
Clients can still create a copy of the report and connect their own data source:
- Open the File menu.
- Select Make a copy.
- Choose a data source.
- Click Copy Report.
In this mode, the original data source stays hidden. Clients cannot interact with it.
After copying the report, the client can use it with their own data.
Off - only specific people can access
Use this option when you want to limit access as much as possible.
With restricted access enabled, clients can:
- View the report only if you grant access directly
- Not edit the report
- Not create a copy
This option works well for demo reports or sample dashboards.
